Zoom
Zoom offers video calling and video conferencing. It is free to use, although calls are limited to 40 minutes. To create or join a video conference, you have to download the app to your smart phone.

Duo offers video calling and video conferencing. It is free to use, but you are limited to 8 participants per session. To create or join a video conference, you have to download the app to your smart phone.

Skype
Skype offers video calling, video conferencing and text chat. It is free, and can also be used from your computer. To use Skype, you have to download the app to your smart phone or PC. If you are using a computer, you need to have a webcam, speakers and a microphone / headset.
