Parish Administrator, St John’s Church, Southbourne

Are you a well-organised and proactive individual with a heart for serving the local church?

St John’s Church, Southbourne, is seeking a dedicated Parish Administrator to ensure the smooth and effective running of our vital church operations.


Hours: 16 hours per week, 40 weeks per year (Term-time). To include some core office hours within: Tuesday-Thursday, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm and an average of 2 hours every other Sunday. (Exact timings are open to discussion)
Salary: £13-14 per hour
Line manager: The Vicar
Location: St John’s Church Centre, Southbourne (with flexibility for some hours worked from home)


About the Role:

As our Administrator, you will be a key member of our staff team, providing support across various areas of church life as we seek to make Jesus known in our community. You’ll be the welcoming first point of contact, a reliable administrator, and a prayerful presence. This diverse role requires someone with excellent people skills who can manage a varied workload, prioritise tasks, and maintain attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:

You will lead on Communications, managing our primary email and phone lines, coordinating content for online and printed publications, and producing our weekly news sheet.

You’ll take charge of Church Centre Management, overseeing bookings, invoicing, and proactively seeking opportunities to increase its use.

Furthermore, you will be responsible for IT & Systems, administering our church management system (ChurchSuite), providing IT support and guidance, and maintaining the church’s Electoral Roll.

In addition to these leadership areas, you will provide crucial support to our:

  • Pastoral Team: Offering a friendly first point of contact and able to offer a faith-based response to enquiries.
  • Finance Team: Assisting with bookkeeping tasks and managing bookings.
  • Staff & Governance: Providing general administrative support to the church teams.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Organised: An efficient administrator capable of managing a varied workload to a deadline.
  • A People Person: Warm, prayerful, and welcoming, with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Prayerful: Grounded in faith and able to offer prayer and support where appropriate.
  • Proactive: A self-starter who shows initiative and can effectively identify and solve problems.
  • Detail-Oriented: Accurate and thorough in all aspects of their work.
  • Tech-Savvy: Confident with IT systems and willing to become proficient in ChurchSuite.

Experience of work in a church or non-profit environment is desirable but not essential.
