Our last meeting of the summer term was on Sunday, 8th July 2018 so we have now broken up for the summer.  We plan to resume meetings in September, focusing on apologetics.  We will be looking at tough questions covering topics which enquirers to the Christian faith ask such as:

Why does God allow suffering?

What about other religions?  Don’t all ways lead to God?

etc…

We trust that all will have a great summer and we look forward to seeing you at future meetings in September.

Our next meeting is on Sunday, 1st July 2018 at 8 p.m. in the lounge at the St. John’s Church Centre with Ian Maclennan leading us.  This week we are looking at 2 Thessalonians, chapter 3.

In the third and final chapter of 2 Thessalonians Paul asks for prayer for his own proclamation of the gospel and for protection from those who oppose him.  He then gives the Thessalonians a strongly worded command concerning believers who are idle and disruptive, backed up with practical instructions.

Man Up – Sunday 24th June 2018

Our next meeting is on Sunday, 24th June 2018 at 8 p.m. in the lounge at the St. John’s Church Centre with John Temple leading us.  This week we are looking at 2 Thessalonians, chapter 2.

In the second chapter of 2 Thessalonians Paul discusses the topics of lawlessness and turmoil in the world, the fact that God restrains lawlessness until the time is right, and the eventual destruction of lawlessness by the coming of the Lord Jesus.  He brings a heavenly perspective on the apparent chaos facing Christians through events in the world.  He also urges the Thessalonians to stand in the gospel, holding fast to the truth they have been taught.

Man Up – Sunday 17th June 2018

Man Up, the group just for men. Every Sunday at 8 p.m. in the Church Centre.

Our next meeting is on Sunday, 17th June 2018 at 8 p.m. in the lounge at the St. John’s Church Centre with Rob Page leading us.  Having enjoyed working through 1 Thessalonians over the last few months, we decided to add three further studies to tackle 2 Thessalonians as well!  This week we are looking at 2 Thessalonians, chapter 1.

Paul writes his second letter to this young church to continue his encouragement.  In the first chapter he helps them to put the persecution which they are experiencing into perspective.  Far from the persecution suggesting that something is wrong with the gospel, it confirms that it is fro God, who will in due course punish those who do not know his gospel and obey it.  He urges the Thessalonians to overcome through their goodness in this difficult situation.  In the current turbulent times as churches decide how to defend / hold out the gospel, this case study helps us to have a right perspective as well.

Man Up – Sunday 10th June 2018

Man Up, the group just for men. Every Sunday at 8 p.m. in the Church Centre.

Our next meeting is on Sunday, 10th June 2018 at 8 p.m. in the lounge at the St. John’s Church Centre with Ian Maclennan leading us.  We will be continuing with the last in our series on Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians, looking at 5:12-28.  Our series title is:

Rejoicing in changed lives through hearing and believing the gospel”

This week Paul concludes his letter with some practical instructions tackling relationships between Christians (including with those who lead us), as well as conduct in day to day life.  He also mentions how we should relate to the Holy Spirit and how we should handle prophecy, as well as praying that God would sanctify his readers through and through.

These are all very relevant to us today, there is much for us to learn from these careful instructions.

This week Paul tackles the topic of the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.  When will he return?  How can we prepare for this momentous day?  How should we behave as we look forward to this time when we will receive the salvation which we have been promised in Christ?  Paul sets out some encouraging guidance which we will do well to take to heart and follow today.

Man Up – Sunday 27th May 2018

Man Up, the group just for men. Every Sunday at 8 p.m. in the Church Centre.

Our next meeting is on Sunday, 27th May 2018 at 8 p.m. in the lounge at the St. John’s Church Centre with Rob Page leading us.  We will be continuing with our series looking at Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians, looking at 4:13-18.  Our series title is:

Rejoicing in changed lives through hearing and believing the gospel”

This week Paul addresses those in the young Thessalonian church who are concerned about those who have died.  Paul outlines what will occur when the Lord returns and reassures us that he will bring those Christians who have died with him.  He describes how the Lord will come down from heaven and the dead in Christ will rise first.  We who are left will then be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air.  Let’s encourage one another with these words!

Man Up – Sunday 15th April 2018

Man Up, the group just for men. Every Sunday at 8 p.m. in the Church Centre.

Our next meeting is on Sunday, 15th April 2018 at 8 p.m. in the lounge at the St. John’s Church Centre with Matt Luff leading us.  We will be continuing with our series looking at Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians, looking at 2:13-16.  Our series title is:

Rejoicing in changed lives through hearing and believing the gospel”

This week Paul gives thanks that the Thessalonians recognised that they were not just hearing Paul speak to them, but that the word he was speaking was from God and they accepted it as such.  Paul then compares the sufferings of the church in Judea to what the Thessalonians have been experiencing and concludes that those who oppose the advance of the gospel are storing up God’s wrath against themselves.

Paul’s teaching underlines that we should expect both joyful acceptance of the gospel, as well as significant opposition to it, as we seek to be obedient to Jesus’ command to share the gospel with others.  Come and join the conversation at 8 p.m. on Sunday in the Church Centre.
